SMALL MAMMALS & OWL DIETARY STUDIES

Since 1992, ORI has studied small mammals of western Montana, tracking the cycles of their populations. We conduct our assessments in the Missoula and Mission Valleys and in Glacier National Park.

We also collect dietary data on owls, leading us to conclude that owls primarily eat small rodents and insects. This finding is communicated directly to ranchers, farmers, and others in the community, dispelling the misconception that owls are primary predators of farm fowl and game birds.
